[S7E9] Into Thin Air !EXCLUSIVE!
Number of times Rory or Lorelai treat their BFF like shit:Paris includes a provision in their new lease that accounts for Logan/any other paramours who might run up the utilities. Instead of getting mad about it, Rory finds her parsimonious antics amusing. I often think about Luke's comment to Lorelai in S2 before she calls off the Max engagement: "I guess if you can find that one person, you know, who's willing to put up with all your crap, and doesn't want to change you or dress you or you know, make you eat French food, then marriage can be all right. But that's only if you find that person." More than with anyone else in her life, Rory loves and accepts Paris for who she is without trying to exert undue influence.

Books mentioned/books Rory is reading:During her move back into Paris' apartment, we learn that Rory has two copies of "The Norton Anthology," which also popped up in "French Twist." Chris calls Lorelai Madame Defarge when he walks downstairs to find her knitting on the couch. I don't believe for a second that he retained the name of the antagonist from Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities." I was an English major and still had to Google that shit.
Remember when Lorelai flipped out on Emily for her lack of enthusiasm regarding the Max Medina engagement? She should be thrilled that even in the wake of her crass answering machine announcement, everyone toasts her good news with champagne and terrifying art acquisitions. The elder Gilmores want to throw her a massive celebration at the Harbor Club and even offer to make it black-tie optional so the scumbags of Stars Hollow can comfortably attend. Lorelai isn't even ready to let Christopher accompany her into town to buy knitting needles, let alone celebrate her love for him at a fancy soirée. Chris should (and probably does) sense that something is wrong when Lorelai's guest list for the prospective party includes only three of her friends, but it's a bit of an "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" situation with him.
If not for Paris and Doyle, the party would be a low energy flop. They have so much confidence that they walk into a room where they know almost no one and instantly start humping each other, drawing everyone into their carnal web. It's hard to exert so much raw sexuality in double-pleated pants, but Doyle has never let fabric (or his recent scoliosis diagnosis) slow him down. Maybe the pleats actually aid in Paris' pleasure, much like a ribbed condom. OK, now I'm just being disgusting. I will show myself out.
Lisa deduces that the unusually high-pitched voice of Bob in his broadcast was due to inhaling helium, and locates him in the envelope of the Duff Blimp. Bob, having lost his patience thanks to Krusty, tries to detonate the bomb, which turns out to be a dud, because it had passed the expiration date of November 1959. Lisa alerts the police to Bob's location using the blimp's variable-message sign, but Bob deflates the blimp and kidnaps Bart, before stealing the original Wright Brothers aircraft, which had been an exhibit at the air show. Holding a knife against Bart's throat, Bob attempts to carry out a deadly kamikaze attack against the civil defense shack where Krusty is hiding and kill him, Bart, and himself, but the slow-moving plane ends up merely bouncing harmlessly off the shack. The authorities quickly arrest Bob and take him back into custody while Bart is reunited with the rest of the family.
Another parodied film is the 1964 thriller Fail-Safe by Sidney Lumet: at the beginning of the third act of the episode, scenes of everyday life across Springfield are shown, and one by one, with a 'zooming' sound effect, they all freeze-frame in anticipation of the (supposedly) imminent nuclear blast; such was the ending of Fail-Safe.[3] One of the scenes before the supposed nuclear blast shows Maggie picking flowers in a field, with the camera zooming into her eye, and then the minuscule blast occurs. This is a parody of the innovative and controversial Daisy advertisement used by Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1964 United States presidential election.[6]
The same goes for eternal third wheel Sebastian (Rob Kerkovich), who's finally found someone to keep him away from his other, albeit very close, but taken friends. Sebastian went overboard with helping a single mother, who was one of the many to bear the brunt of job loss during the pandemic. The woman ended up living in her car, and CPS took her very young child away. Sebastian singlehandedly arranged a place for her to work (Pride's bar) and got her housing facilities (rented out by Loretta Wade) and eventually the authorities returned her daughter to her. Could there be anything more touching as a foundation stone for a relationship? We think not.
Dukat, also wearing an armband as well as a red Bajoran earring, dismisses the group and proceeds to attempt to convince Kira to believe in the Pah-wraiths, with the argument that the Prophets stood by and did nothing during the Occupation. This doesn't faze Kira, as the Prophets' path is not easy to fathom. Dukat explains that the Pah-wraiths only wanted to take a more active role in the Bajorans' lives, and for that they were cast out and imprisoned. Only wanting to love the people more, they should be considered the true gods. Dukat calls himself the Emissary of the Pah-wraiths and says they speak to him, and "opened his heart." He has pierced his ear as a symbolic gesture of the covenant between himself and the people there.
Kira, being kept in quarters, is met by Fala. She is very disappointed in him while he admits that he joined the cult years earlier because he had lost faith in the Prophets. Kira is shaken by her friend's admission, and can't believe he abandoned all the people he helped. Fala defends the "cult," taking issue with each of Kira's characterizations of their group. He also explains that the individual who tried to kill Sisko acted alone from his misguided beliefs. He believes Dukat has bee[n "washed clean" by the Pah-wraiths and has forgiven his past. He then shows her the community they have built to show her she has nothing to fear. During a walk with Fala on Empok Nor's Promenade, Kira meets a young pregnant woman named Mika. She congratulates her, but then oddly finds out she needed permission to have a baby with her husband, Benyan. Fala explains that it is part of their covenant with Dukat to take vows of abstinence, reflective of ancient Bajoran traditions. Kira is skeptical. She meets Benyan while he paints a mural of Dukat along with his Bajoran followers. Benyan doesn't respond to Kira's subtle disagreement.
Mika soon goes into labor, so Dukat brings Kira to the infirmary. However, when her child is born, it is half-Cardassian, shocking the two parents. Dukat also feigns shock, but, without a beat, excitedly declares that the Pah-wraiths have sent them a sign of their covenant. Mika's face shows she clearly doesn't believe this "miracle." Kira doesn't believe either, of course, but the rest of the congregation, including Fala, accept Dukat's explanation. He starts to lead them in prayer, and Kira is utterly shocked.
Kira immediately confronts Fala with this turn of events, appealing to his intelligence. Fala defends Dukat's words, arguing that a miracle is a possibility that cannot be ruled out. Indeed, if the Prophets can disappear an entire fleet of Dominion ships, they are capable of anything. Kira, on the other hand, knows Fala too well to believe that he would accept this without question. When Kira pushes him hard enough, he admits to suspect her version of the truth, but he asserts that he has faith in his beliefs and that he wants to follow where his faith leads him. Her further conversations with Benyan make it obvious that Benyan has serious doubts about Dukat's version of events.
As the ceremony begins, Kira manages to escape from her cell by overloading the door's locking mechanism. She rushes into the hall from the second level, and knocks down Dukat as he holds his tablet, as well as a pedestal containing dozens more. He starts searching in vain for his particular tablet as she is restrained. When Fala hands Dukat another tablet, he cannot accept it. Kira realizes Dukat's original pill was a fake and he never intended to kill himself. When she calls him on his duplicity, and the crowd becomes restless, Dukat protests that he alone must live to show others the light of the Pah-wraiths. None believe him, and the order falls apart; Benyan finally realizes the truth of his child's birth and turns on Dukat. As he loses control, Dukat shouts to them that the covenant is broken, and transports out.
"I have been touched by the hand of a god. I'm a changed man. Oh, I admit that when I first allowed myself to become a vessel for the Pah-wraith, it was purely out of self-serving reasons. All I wanted was to help it enter the wormhole so it could force the Prophets out. It was nothing more than a way to exact vengeance on Sisko. But I had no idea of the effect it would have on me. It was only inside of me for a very short time, but it opened my heart.""Would that be before or after you killed Jadzia?""That was most unfortunate, but it couldn't be helped. The Celestial Temple itself was at stake, and she was in the way."
"I have faith. I would think you'd understand what that means. Nerys, is it beyond the realm of possibility that the Pah-wraiths have sent us this as a sign? They have powers beyond our understanding. Your Prophets made an entire fleet of Dominion ships vanish into thin air. What's one child compared to a miracle like that?""You want to know what the miracle is? That Mika didn't break into tears in front of her husband. She was terrified because he wasn't going to believe Dukat's little performance. I could see it in her eyes."
A blizzard has entirely blanketed New York City in a thick layer of snow. Dr. Venture looks out at the snow-covered skyscrapers from the warmth and safety of his penthouse home in the VenTech Tower. He encourages Billy Quizboy to hurry up in inserting an experimental new thermal regulation suppository into his rectum. Billy nervously does so in the bathroom, then steps gingerly into the living room to report back to Dr. Venture. The two hear a beeping noise that they don't recognize. Dr. Venture takes Hank with him to the panic room while he sends Billy off to pinpoint the location of the beeping. 041b061a72
