I keep seeing people lump "storage" into one thing, but door-to-door and self storage feel like totally different products in Dubai.
I tried door-to-door first when we downsized from a 2 bed in JLT to a smaller place in Al Nahda. The pickup was smooth, but I hated the lack of control. When I suddenly needed a winter box and some documents, it turned into a booking, a delivery window, and extra fees. That might be fine if you are storing long-term and never touching it.
After that I switched to self storage Dubai style units for my "access it anytime" stuff. For me the trade-offs are pretty clear:
Door-to-door: less hassle upfront, but harder to grab one item quickly Self storage: you do the lifting, but you can sort, label, and visit when you want* Door-to-door pricing can look cheap until you add retrievals
Also, with rents and moving stories always popping up on Gulf News, I expect I will move again, so access and flexibility matter more than convenience.
